The Shaman's Drum: Experiencing the Rhythm of the Earth

I think we’re a lot alike . . . wanting to be in right relationship with the world. Wanting our lives to be in the “flow” and easy. Feeling ourselves in that positive frequency all day long… and easily finding gratitude and beauty all around us. Knowing that we are held, protected and supported by Spirit. I believe that we are meant to hear the voice of the rain, see the guidance from the birds, feel the healing movement of the ocean and the support of the mountains. . . and to vibrate with the songs of the trees. But how do we stay in that place of “knowing” in our busy, distraction-filled lives? For thousands of years, shamans have used the practice of journey to bring back wisdom and healing…And this same skill is so needed now… for you, your family, and your clients. To be in right relationship with the world. I want to give you the chance to experience how this works. But first, some background. Journeying is different than meditation. And I’ve done both for a long time. I started with TM 35 years ago, before becoming a practicing shaman and teaching shamanism and leading journeys for more than 20 years. The difference between mediation and journey is one of focus and intention. Meditation is a natural part of your body’s rhythms. It’s all about the frequency of your brain and using that frequency with intention. In meditation you experience the egoless state and there is no intention to do anything. You are open to releasing resistances and to thus experience a consciousness that is unbounded. In journey – you have a specific intention. You might merge with an animal, or an element like the wind, or search for a lost soul part or receive guidance on a particular issue. One way to think about it: When you read a book on the ocean you think about the waves and the tides and the animals that live there. In meditation you experience the ocean. In journeying you are piloting the ship… consciously and with intention. You may start by experiencing the ocean. Then, when you have the information you need, you create the boat and take the wheel. If you meditate – keep that practice. Do both meditation and journey. This is not an either/or. But the shaman creates and changes the world through the core tool of Journey. While journeying is traditional to indigenous cultures, today it is one of the core tools available to everyone to help us live a life “in right relationship.” Everyone can learn to journey. And modern science proves that it works. The electric currents of the brain vibrate at different frequencies; scientist call these cycles (or hertz). They divide the brain frequency spectrum into four different segments: Beta is when our mind is active, Alpha is associated with light sleep and dreaming, and Theta is considered deep meditation and is experienced in the REM dream state. Delta is deep dreamless sleep and transcendental meditation, where awareness is fully detached. Theta allows deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe. You’ve heard artists, athletes, performers, inventors and creators refer to it as “the zone.” It’s where we experience vivid visualizations, inspiration, profound creativity, and exceptional insight and performance. And it’s where we journey. The voice of the rain, ocean and birds are there. You can hear the songs of the trees. You can fully experience the ocean and creating the ship you want to pilot. Research shows that 7-8 Hz – or upper Theta/lower Alpha levels – is the optimal range for visualization, mind programming and consciously creating reality. It is also exactly the vibrational frequency of the Earth. No wonder the shaman traditionally drums or rattles. The rhythmic beat of the shaman's drum enables your brain waves to drop down to upper Theta level of 4–7.5Hz, where peak healing and conscious creation occurs. [ DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE DRUMMING AUDIO] You can learn to consciously work with altered states of consciousness, so you can consciously create the flow in your life. The more you practice going to Lower Alpha and Upper Theta, the better you will become at receiving and using guidance. Click here to download 6 minutes of drumming – so you can experience and practice the sense of going to Lower Alpha or Theta. I hope you enjoy the drumming. [ DOWNLOAD IT HERE] Load it onto your iPhone and go sit on the earth if you can. Wherever you are, simply notice what comes up for you as your brainwaves shift with the sound of the shaman's drum. In my next email, we'll talk more about how to journey, and explore the different realms where the shaman works. And of course, eventually, a chance to go on journey together. With deepest gratitude, Linda
